LOVIN’ D’ LOKAL

When CDO performs, we should be watching…but who else?

Our local musicians deserve our smitten-like attentions.  Because in time that they hit it big we’ll be the first ones to claim them as ‘ours’, you bet!

Here in CDOKAY we make one virtual studio where you can see our local music artists, up close.  Get to check out their gigs and listen to their music.  It’s high time that we feel the local music scene.  It’s time for some “Lovin’ d’ Lokal.”

CDO musicians…to the front, to the front!

TO THE FRONT!

Thoughts and Notions,
CDO’s first alternative Christian pop-rock band

Thoughts And Notions is a Pop-Rock band that aims to bring forth a fusion of positive music with positive messages. The band is a brainchild of Jasper Lloyd Tan and Wilbert Tan who brought along Thrina Dimaano as their Lead Vocalist. The band had their humble beginnings as part of their Church’s music ministry. One fateful day, Jasper and Wilbert decided to write, record, and produce a 10 track album bringing along Thrina Dimaano to the project and called their band as ‘Thoughts And Notions’.

“In Awe of His Amazing Love,” The Album

The band started selling the album they titled as “In Awe of His Amazing Love” through their church mates, peers, and friends and decided to donate a part of their earnings to the Youth group that they belonged to.  With the album selling faster than they expected and after getting positive feedbacks from those who were able to avail a copy of the album, they were inspired and emboldened to send a copy to Praise Music (the country’s biggest Christian music store) where it didn’t take that long for Praise to offer them a distribution contract.

With these developments, and Wilbert’s departure to join his main band Drizzle, Jasper and Thrina were left holding the contract but without the rest of the band members. They then decided to hold a series of auditions for the vacant spots to be filled. And from there, they were able to recruit Tim Marquez (lead guitars), Alvin Carreon (bass), John Fernandez (rhythm/vocals), and Jun-Jun Dychauco (drums) to complete their lineup.

They had their album launching at SM City-CDO and had began gigging all over the city of Cagayan de Oro playing alongside other established CDO based bands as well as opening for big time bands/artists like Bamboo, Budoy and Jr. Kilat, Sheila and the Insects, and even pop stars Mark Bautista and Rachelle Ann Go.

Just recently, the band has some line up changes when John Fernandez and Jun-Jun Dychauco  left the group. They brought along Adonis Berongoy as their new drummer and Ericson Gloria as their session guitarist/bassist.

About their songs
Basically, Thoughts And Notions’ songs are best described as songs that aim to help uplift wounded souls, where most of their debut album’s songs talk about their Christian faith.  While there are common stereotypes about Christian bands and Christian Music, Thoughts And Notions has surprisingly gained fans with their refreshing take of Christian-themed songs.

Their music is best described as a cross between Pop Rock, Alternative Rock, and Acoustic Music.  There are the Alternative Rock Sounding songs such as Savior, and Repentance. There are the Pop-Rock tunes like Brand New Day, Defender, My Love Song, and Strength I Need.  Then there are the acoustic tinged songs such as Healer, My Journey Ends, and Earthbound Angel.

But the band does not discount the possibility of creating and writing songs in the future where they would even spread their creative horizons by writing songs that does not necessarily talk about the Christian Faith but nonetheless are bringing a positive message. Social awareness, faith in action, nationalistic pride, and other related messages that are positive would be the band’s main themes in future releases.

MUSIC TO OUR EARS

Rocking Out in Cagayan de Oro
By Jasper Lloyd Tan,
Lyricist/Manager, Thoughts and Notions

Here in Cagayan de Oro City, does music that is good enough for national consumption actually exist?  CDO has never been short with talents. In fact they have an arsenal of hidden gems all waiting to be discovered, all waiting to be given a crack at national prominence. I have followed closely the developments of CDO's music scene since the 90's band explosion.

There were a lot of bands that were explosive enough to warrant a chance to grab a recording deal. But since going "Indie" and Do-it-yourself recordings was still not the "In" thing to do way back. A lot of bands died down along with their music. Their memories only secluded to those who were able to watch their shows…Read more at www.philmusic.com
